NanoSen-AQM Project at Tecnaire-CM final workshop – 23 November 2018

NanoSen-AQM has participated in the final workshop of the project “Innovative technologies for the assessment and improvement of the urban air quality” funded by the Government of the Community of Madrid (TECNAIRE-CM, 2014-2018).

The workshop was held on November 23rd at the School of Industrial Engineering of the Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPM-ETSII), which is the coordinator of the project TECNAIRE-CM and associate partner of the project NanoSen-AQM.

The workshop showed the results of the air quality monitoring (AQM) campaigns accomplished by using reference analytical instruments and a network of commercial sensors (NO2, O3 and PM) in two traffic hotspots and other locations in the city of Madrid during summer and winter time. The capabilities of the computing tools developed within TECNAIRE-CM to provide air pollution maps with a resolution of kilometers (mesoscale) and of meters (microscale) were presented too, and their predictions compared to air pollution data measured in scenarios with implemented traffic protocols of different severity level. The performance of the commercial sensors in the AQM campaigns undertaken in TECNAIRE-CM is quite relevant to NanoSen-AQM Project.

The workshop represented a good opportunity for informal networking with the partners of TECNAIRE-CM: Polytechnic University and Complutense University of Madrid (UPM and UCM), National Research Center for Energy, Environment and Technology (CIEMAT), and National Scientific Research Council (CSIC-IQFR). Furthermore, it made it possible to establish synergies with potential stakeholders of NanoSen-AQM: R&D centers like the Mediterranean Center for Environmental Studies (CEAM) and companies providing AQM related services such as SequoPro, Automated Services and Enviro Engineering, which were all represented at the workshop.
