CSIC – ITEFI

Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Cientificas  – Instituto de Tecnologías Físicas y de la Información “Leonardo Torres Quevedo”

The Institute for Physical and Information Technologies (ITEFI) belongs to the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), the largest public institution dedicated to R&D in Spain, which ranks the third among the largest research bodies in Europe. The mission of ITEFI is to foster multidisciplinary scientific and technological research in advanced physical technologies in the acoustics, ultrasound and gas sensing fields, as well as in information technologies related to ultrasound image processing, communications security and cryptography; and to transfer knowledge and technology to industry and society.

The R&D group for Nanosensors and Smart Systems (NoySI) of ITEFI participates and coordinates the project NanoSen-AQM. NoySI is pioneer in Spain in the development of advanced chemical sensors and multi-sensor systems for the analysis of complex gas mixtures, and their applications in agro-food, environment, health and security.

Universidad de Extremadura – Escuela de Ingenierías Industriales / Facultad de Ciencias

The University of Extremadura is the largest public academic and R&D institution in its region.
It has two R&D groups participating in NanoSen-AQM: Perception and Intelligent Systems formed by electronic and computer engineers with extensive experience in developing instruments and measuring systems for gas sensors, and software for data processing, web and mobile apps; and the Environmental Chemical Analysis group of chemists and physicists with consolidated experience in developing, validating and applying methodologies that analyse and interpret data to assess pollution.

AIGUASOL is an international energy and environmental engineering and consulting company whose aim is to create indoor and outdoor spaces and to devise exceptional, comfortable and efficient systems and processes that have a positive impact on the environment. Founded in 1999 under the cooperative regime, AIGUASOL incorporates in 2017 all the human and material equipment of ZEROHUB, another cooperative specializing in innovative environmental initiatives, developers of the award-winning air quality sensitization tool at the Smart City Congress in Barcelona (2015) implemented in 2 municipalities of the province of Barcelona. The team is made up of more than 20 professionals with high level of technical and scientific experience, including engineers, PhDs, physicists and architects who with notable experience both in private companies and research centres.

Universidade de Évora – Escola de Ciências e Tecnologia

The University of Evora School of Science and Technology has two R&D units participating in NanoSen-AQM, providing essential skills for developing the cloud system needed to manage air quality data for the field validation of the multi-sensor system. The NanoSen-AQM Computing, Systems and Parallelism Laboratory (LISP) Group includes researchers from the Universities of Evora, Beira Interior and Algarve, and the Polytechnic Institute of Beja, and is experienced in data mining and processing, automatic learning, distributed systems, cloud computing and web and mobile applications. The Institute of Earth Sciences group is a multidisciplinary team of researchers from the Universities of Evora, Minho and Porto experienced in monitoring air pollution.

Universidade de Coimbra – Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia

The University of Coimbra Faculty of Sciences and Technology (FCTUC) is the university’s major faculty and an indisputable reference for higher education and research in Portugal, due to the quality of its courses and the advances achieved in pure and applied research in various knowledge areas. FCTUC is skilled at processing sensor data: filtration, standardisation, and the detection and treatment of spurious data and is also experienced in developing algorithms to extract information (knowledge-based inference methods), cloud system platforms and ubiquitous systems. These are essential to processing the air quality data obtained through systems and sensor networks such as those developed at NanoSen-AQM.

Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique – Délégation Midi-Pyrénées – Centre Interuniversitaire de Recherche et d’Ingénierie Des Matériaux

The CNRS-CIRIMAT laboratory is a Mixed Research Unit (UMR CNRS 5085) spread across the Paul Sabatier University and INPT-ENSIACET campuses. It is also part of the Carnot Institute – Chemistry Balard Cirimat, which offers companies innovative R&D solutions for Chemistry, Materials and Processes. CNRS-CIRIMAT meets industry needs in the fields of: Chemistry, Energy, Health-Cosmetics, High Performance Materials, Sustainable Processes and Transport.

The Mixed Valence Oxide Team participating in NanoSen-AQM is expert in the deposition of oxide thin films by radio-frequency sputtering, and particularly in the preparation of thin films of complex oxides with a high surface to volume ratio and improved gas-sensitive electrical properties, for application in resistive gas sensors (MOS or MOX gas sensors).

Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique – Délégation Midi-Pyrénées – Laboratoire d’Analyses et d’Architecture des Systèmes

The CNRS-LAAS (Laboratory for Analysis and Architecture of Systems) belongs to the French RENATECH Network of Technology Centres. It is home to a 1500 m2 class 100 cleanroom featuring micro- and nanotechnology facilities, 3D manufacturing platforms and material characterisation equipment. The MICA group, from the CNRS-LAAS Micro-Nano- and Biotechnology department, is involved in NanoSen-AQM, working to develop optical and chemical sensors for gases and liquids analysis. Its notable and long history of R&D for MOX gas sensor technologies and specific silicon-based micro-platforms (with a heating option) will be used to prepare and manufacture multi gas sensors with new operation and data acquisition methods.

RAY-IE

Ray Ingeniería Electrónica S.L.

The company RAY-IE is dedicated to the design, development and manufacture of instrumentation for the monitoring and control of industrial processes and atmospheric pollution. It has competences in the design of electronic cards and printed circuit boards, the programming of microcontrollers for the control of prototypes, the validation of instruments for the control of air quality and the processing of data in multi-sensor systems.
In NanoSen-AQM, RAY-IE participates in the design and development of the electronic system, is responsible for its integration in the air quality monitoring platforms and provides support to the operators of the platforms during the measurement campaigns. It also participates in the implementation of software for the treatment and processing of air pollution data.

DIPUTACIÓN DE ÁVILA

Diputación de Ávila – Área de Asuntos Europeos, Energía, Promoción y Turismo

The Provincial Council of Ávila governs and administers 248 municipalities in central Spain. It provides these municipalities with legal and technical advice on Air Quality Control, and has launched a strategic plan to manage and control air quality in order to preserve and improve the air in a territory, over 40% of which is included in the Natura 2000 network. The Provincial Council of Avila will also coordinate actions with the regional authority responsible for air quality control.

Junta de Extremadura – Consejería de Medio Ambiente y Rural, Políticas Agrarias y Territorio

The Directorate General for the Environment of the Government of Extremadura is responsible for air quality in this Autonomous Community, and works to monitor and control air pollutants in line with Royal Decree 102/2011 and its subsequent amendments. The Air Quality Protection and Research Network (REPICA) in Extremadura, has a similar objective to the NanoSen-AQM project. Designed and managed by the Directorate General for the Environment of the Government of Extremadura, and supported by the University of Extremadura, this network of six fixed and two mobile stations monitors and researches air quality in the region, measuring up to 16 air quality and meteorological parameters.

Área Metropolitana de Barcelona

The Metropolitan Area of Barcelona (AMB) is the public administration of the metropolitan area of Barcelona, which occupies 636 km² and is made up with 36 municipalities with more than 3.2 million inhabitants.
The Council of Metropolitan Municipalities for the Fight against Atmospheric Pollution of Barcelona is an organism, led by the AMB, that has the ultimate goal to develop a joint strategy to improve the air quality of the metropolitan area of Barcelona. The AMB coordinates 6 work groups against air pollution, with the main objective of the definition and coordination of an action protocol against possible occasional episodes of atmospheric pollution, agreed with the metropolitan municipalities.

EEA-CODA

Ecologistas en acción

The EEA-CODA is a confederation of more than 300 environmental groups distributed throughout the Spanish geography. Air pollution is one of the areas of greatest intensity of the EEA-CODA, in which they carry out activities to monitor air quality networks and report episodes of air pollution not detected by them; preparation of specific and viable proposals for the improvement of air quality; information and awareness campaigns in towns and cities.

EEA-CODA will assess NanoSen-AQM project with the definition of awareness campaigns related to air quality and will their dissemination.

UPM-ETSII

Universidad Politécnica de Madrid – Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingenieros Industriales

The Department of Industrial Chemical Engineering and the Environment of the UPM-ETSII carries out R&D activities in the sampling and analysis of pollutants and in the modelling of air quality, coordinates the project “Innovative techniques for the evaluation and improvement of urban air quality” (Tecnaire-CM, 2013-2020) of the Community of Madrid and has extensive experience in the evaluation of plans and programs and evaluation of the impact of activities acquired through numerous contracts and agreements with public administrations and private companies.
The UPM-ETSII will advise the NanoSen-AQM project in sensor related issues, will contribute to project dissemination and promote the use of developed systems in academic activities.
